Hunter Index Financial Update
As a nonprofit, startup newsroom, Hunter Index aims to disclose our own finances to our audience.
As a non-profit startup news organization, transparency is vital to our integrity.
In 2025, we filed a 990-N (e-Postcard) return in compliance with the Internal Revenue Service requirements as our revenue was below the reporting income threshold.
In 2025, we received revenue via individual subscribers to our content via Substack and direct donations through our website donor portal. We did not take any corporate donations nor any advertising revenue nor received more than $5,000 from one individual donor.
In 2026, we are working with the following budget to reflect the current landscape for nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlets.
Why Does It Matter?
Please be informed of your politicians’ personal finances and our organization’s money too.
That’s our goal at the Hunter Index. We believe it is important for constituents to understand how their government officials’ personal finances may affect their policy-making decisions, as well as understanding the potential wide disparity between their wealth and that of the people in their home state or district.
Remember our favorite questions: Would you make a decision that costs your family money for the public good? Isn’t that what we ask of our government officials?
If our coverage is focused on what’s in your government officials’ wallets, then you should know about our organization’s purse too.
Managing Hunter Index and its exclusive database, which makes reporting like this article possible, is extremely expensive and labor-intensive.
